At the SEPC Monterey Mushrooms will be highlighting our new sustainable packaging with consumer friendly labels. This packaging was recently recognized by the Produce Marketing Association with their Impact Award for 2011. It features a biodegradable paper till printed with recipes, versatile meal ideas, and nutritional information. The labels highlight the “Deliciously Healthy” and “High in Vitamin D” features of mushrooms with a mouth-watering image of a recipe idea. These packages have been rolled out nationally beginning in the west and are now available nationwide.

Monterey Mushrooms is featured in this issue of FoodPaths. FoodPaths is a new online venture dedicated to food and agriculture. FoodPaths explores where our food really comes from, putting a face on the families that grow our food and bring it to market.
In the article Shah and Kyon Kazemi lead FoodPaths on a tour of the Royal Oaks farm and talk about the art of growing mushrooms and the philosophy at Monterey.

This is a prestigious award chosen from the entire produce industry and over a hundred entries. Monterey Mushrooms honors National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by using pink packaging. Research shows that eating mushrooms benefits our health. We are proud to participate in the industry’s pink promotion to raise awareness about a disease that affects so many people in our communities.

We showcased nine of our most popular mushrooms in the Harvest Building last week at the Santa Cruz County Fair. Fairgoers enjoyed our mushrooms sautéed in butter and locally grown garlic and parsley. We took home 2 Special Recognition Awards and 4 Blue Ribbons! We even made it on TV!!
