About Monterey Mushrooms®
Family-owned mushroom farming strategically located across North America
Monterey Mushrooms:
A 50-Year Legacy and a Purpose
Monterey Mushrooms has built a legacy as a mushroom grower. Our seven mushroom farms, located across North America, produce millions of pounds of fresh mushrooms every year.
Our purpose is to Enhance People’s Lives, and that starts at each Monterey Mushrooms farm with our vertically integrated affiliates and owned logistics fleet. We grow, harvest, package, and deliver the freshest mushrooms and mushroom products 365 days a year.
Operating year-round, we work hard to ensure that retailers, foodservice operators, distributors, and manufacturers have the consistency of supply and quality needed to satisfy their consumers and customers every day.
Why would you consider buying mushrooms from a farm across the country, or in another country, when you can source them fresh and ready from our seven U.S. locations or our farm in Central Mexico?
Our History
Founded in 1971, Monterey Mushrooms became a family-owned business when the company was purchased by Shah Kazemi, who began as an employee himself. Along the way, we introduced pre-packaged mushrooms for retailers, began growing USDA-certified organic mushrooms, developed sustainable packaging, and more. We’ve led innovation in the mushroom category for decades.
Today, thousands of teammates are proud to be part of our humble, family-owned business that has been Enhancing People’s Lives for over 50 years. That’s right — 50 years!

Corporate Sustainability
Our Corporate Goals
Our Farms
As a leading mushroom grower in North America, we take our responsibilities seriously. Mushrooms are not only delicious; they're nature's way of showing us a smarter choice for the planet. We’ve taken the process even further, such as water conservation and recyclable packaging.
Our Logistics
Monterey Mushrooms delivers fresh mushrooms and mushroom products across all 48 continental states and Mexico. As a mushroom supplier with nationwide reach, we reduce the miles our mushrooms travel, which reduces our carbon footprint.
Enhancing People’s Lives
At the heart of that operation is a group of folks who dedicate themselves to their work and each other day in and day out. That’s why we invest in enhancing the lives in the communities around Monterey Mushrooms locations.
Community Engagement
Out in the world, Monterey Mushrooms is proud to participate in mushroom festivals, serving up our fresh mushrooms in Portabella tacos or blended sliders and donating our proceeds to local charities. Our teammates across the continent give back to their local communities in different ways, such as serving meals together at local soup kitchens and donating to local holiday toy drives.
We also love educating consumers on the nutrition and sustainability of the mighty mushroom through our ebooks, cookbooks, and fun mushroom-themed activities.
Scholarships
A good farmer tends their crops. At Monterey Mushrooms, that means giving each other — and our families — what they need to grow. So that’s exactly what we do. We don’t just grow mushrooms, we grow people.
Community engagement is a passion of Monterey’s CEO Shah Kazemi, and the company awards annual scholarships to the dependent children of full-time employees in a program that honors Carl Victor Fields, the company’s former Vice President of Marketing.
Since 1992, more than $3.8 million has been granted.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Monterey Mushrooms' success reflects the quality, skill, and unique individuality of our teammates. We believe that recruiting, developing, and retaining diverse individuals and experiences bring value to not only our company but also the communities and regions where we live and serve.
