As the “Mushroom Capital of Texas,” Madisonville certainly knows how to run a festival.
The annual Texas Mushroom Festival is a highlight of our year, and 2025 was no exception. For us at Monterey Mushrooms, it’s more than just an event; it’s a hometown celebration of community, collaboration, and our favorite food: the magnificent mushroom. We were thrilled to be at the heart of it all.
A Celebration of Community, Connection, and the Magnificent Mushroom
This year's festival brought folks from near and far, filling the town square with live music, fantastic vendors, and the sights of the classic auto showcase. But for us, the real magic happens when we get to share our passion directly with our neighbors. It’s a chance to educate, connect, and, most importantly, share some delicious food.
From sizzling Portabella tacos to conversations about the mushroom life cycle, this year’s festival had something for everyone.
Cooking up Connection: 1,800 Tacos Strong
If you followed the incredible smell of sizzling mushrooms, it likely led you to one of the Monterey Mushrooms tents. Our passionate team was hard at work grilling up a storm for the community.
This year, we served approximately 1,800 Portabella Fajita Tacos using 350 pounds of our fresh portabellas! The line was long, but the smiles were wide. It was a massive, joyful effort.
As Elena Fortaneli, our People & Culture Manager at the Madisonville, Texas, Monterey Mushroom’s farm, put it: “The Mushroom Festival was a fantastic experience! Everything went wonderfully, and we’re so grateful for the connections, laughter, and unforgettable moments we shared.”

We weren't just serving tacos. Our goal is always to be the ultimate culinary mushroom resource for everyone.
Latreace Craig, People & Culture Manager, captured the scene perfectly: "This year's festival did not disappoint mushroom lovers near and far, and at the center of it all was Monterey Mushroom with a strong presence under three large tents!”
In one tent, the Monterey team served free mushroom fajitas, gave away Monterey swag, and sold White button, Baby Bella, and Portabella mushrooms for a steal. Two additional tents were used to educate the public on our growing process from mushroom spawn to harvesting, with a display of our growing beds."
We love pulling back the curtain and sharing the science of growing! It’s this passion for mushrooms — from the microscopic level to the dinner plate — that drives our entire family of companies.
